# Drowning

Symptoms:

* No pulse or breathing if submerged for an extended period of time
* Hypothermia
* Loss of consciousness&#x20;
* Slow/shallow breathing
* Whatever caused you to drown: Major injury, accident, narcotics, alcohol, cant swim etc
* Shock
* Water in lungs or throat
* Choking on water
* Elevated or lowered heart rate
* Cardiac arrest
* Respiratory distress
* Diaphoretic

**What happens on scene:**

* Rescue from water
* Check vitals
* Asses the extent of injury if any
* Removal of clothing&#x20;
* Oxygen
* CPR
* Suctioning of water from airway
