# Burns

{% hint style="info" %} <mark style="color:yellow;">**Different degrees of burns:**</mark>

* 1st Degree: Least severe, superficial, equivalent to sunburn
* 2nd Degree: Moderate to severe pain, red small blisters
* 3rd Degree: Major, deep into muscle/fat, general loss of feeling at center of burn

**Symptoms:**

* 1st Degree: red irritated skin, warm and tender to the touch, minor pain, minor swelling, skin may feel dry and tight.
* 2nd Degree: intensely red and swollen, large painful blisters, wetness from leaking blisters, sever pain, sensitive, may be discolored, and may have other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, fever and chills.
* 3rd Degree: leathery skin, dry skin, skin discoloration of white - black - bright red, swelling, blisters, shiny moist skin, may have little to no pain due to nerve endings being destroyed, difficulty breathing, unconscious from shock, and shock.

Heart Rate: may be elevated or lowered due to trauma

Respiratory Distress: shallow breathing, hyper-ventilation, short breaths

Diaphoretic: Pale, sweating heavily

**What happens on scene:**

* Vitals check
* IVs
* Cleaning with saline
* Add burn creams
* Loosely wrapping with saline soaked gauze
* Clothing removal
